Let's suppose you are working in a large desk and you forget to turn off your computer, either when you go into your lunch break or when you leave work. In this case, work colleagues can access your computer without your consent and can have access to your private and important information. Windows doesn't offer an option for avoiding this, so the only thing left to do is to use a 3rd party application for automatically locking the computer. An example is Active System Locker.

After reading the name of the program, the user will quickly know that it is about locking the computer manually or after a certain amount of time. It's a Windows application and, as such, it can be installed in the same manner as other similar applications, by following the on-screen instructions.

Launching the software will bring up a simple interface that displays in real time the state of the system, which is locked or unlocked, and also the hour when the computer will be automatically locked, together with the amount of time left. Having all this information clearly displayed in front of him, the user can easily know if the auto-locking settings are correct. A locked computer can be unlocked only by entering the right password. By default, the password is blank, but can be easily changed from the options section of Active System Locker.

From the same options section, the program can be set to automatically lock the computer at system startup. Besides that, hot keys can be used for quickly locking the system, in case the user doesn't want to wait for the required time to pass.

A log window can display all the program's actions and allows the user to easily see if someone has tried to unlock the computer and when.

Pros

It can lock the computer manually or after a certain amount of time. Besides that, it features a log window that can display all the program's actions, like locking and unlocking and the exact hour. Furthermore, the program can be set to automatically lock the computer at system startup, for an even greater protection.

Cons

The default password is blank and one may forget to change it, thus making the program unprotected. Active System Locker is a solution for locking any system using a password.
